Hello there, welcome back to another guitar string review for you! This time, we will be looking at one of my recent discoveries in guitar strings, Pyramid electric strings 9 42. If you are a regular reader of my blog, you are probably already aware of my love for Elixir guitar strings. I have been using Elixirs since 2009, and to be honest, never switched to another brand for long-term use. Having said that, I frequently try different guitar strings from different brands so that I can have my own opinion and experience with them. Pyramid Strings is a brand that I have been recently trying on my 7-string and my Stratocaster a lot! While researching a nice 7-string guitar set, I bumped into Pyramid 7-string electric guitar strings for my Schecter Hellraiser Hybrid PT-7 and have been using them extensively.

About Pyramid Strings
Pyramid Strings is a long-established small German company manufacturing German-made strings for almost any stringed instrument, such as electric & acoustic guitars, basses, nylon strings, ukulele and banjo strings, violin, oud, bouzouki, saz, lute strings…etc
They have been in the business since 1850! I had actually already been aware of the Pyramid brand since I started playing the guitar. Especially during my years in the musical instruments industry, I witnessed how popular their strings were, in particular their saz (bağlama, which is a Turkish folk instrument) and oud strings. But I never had the chance to see their electric guitar strings in the market, or wanted to try them on my instruments.

I must confess that it’s sad that I wasn’t able to try them for a long time. But when I tried the 7-string version on my Schecter, I really liked them and already bought many, including 7-strings, 9-42, 10-46 and 11-48, stock up enough for a year or so! 🙂

Pyramid 9-42 also hasn’t really let me down with its price, quality and value/money ratio! Pyramid 9-42 electric guitar strings are pure nickel strings, and they have been available in the market since 1999!
Pyramid 9-42 set features 9-12-16-22-32-42 strings and can be considered as the standard gauge for many guitar players.

Along with its 9-46 siblings, both Pyramid string sets are in the top 10 most affordable electric guitar strings ever, while being made in Germany! Before I restrung my Fender American Standard Stratocaster with Pyramid 9-42 strings, I already knew what I would get. Very sweet sounding, excellent tension strings! Also, note that they get corroded easily, at least for me.
But as I also mentioned the corrosion issue in my Pyramid 7-string review, this is something I expect from any brand of uncoated strings. I have heard that not everyone will experience this, as everyone’s pH is different. But for me, it takes a day of intense playing, then the plain strings already change colour. Having said that, since these are extremely affordable, you can change strings from every 2-3 weeks to a month and still save a lot of money!
Here in this instrument care and restringing session video below, I was using Pyramid 009-42 strings for my lovely Fender American Standard Stratocaster.

With regards to what Pyramid electric strings 009-042 sound like, I have just prepared a random demo/test video. Please have a listen! Note that this set of Pyramid strings is freshly installed on my Fender Strat; they sound very bright and crispy!

I recommend Pyramid 9 42 to anyone who is looking for excellent-sounding strings, as well as being extremely affordable yet made in Germany. In my opinion, Pyramid Strings is one of the most underestimated and overlooked string brands in the world. They are seriously excellent in quality and possibly provide the best value out of all guitar string brands.
Pricing & Availability
As usual, my go-to music webstore would be Thomann. I often place orders on Thomann, and also add additional strings, such as Pyramid ones! 🙂
